The vocatio individualised career education plan – VICEP is a career strategy plan based on the premise that everyone has the right to create a successful and fullfilled life for themselves.
These plans are developed for each student with support from their parents and the Vocatio team
It is a journey that the student, the parent and their counsellor take together
The VICEP involves a number of steps before the student can arrive at a decision that is informed and well thought out.
1. Make Your Wishlist
During your first session at Vocatio, you will be asked a number of questions about your interests, likes and dislikes. This will help us get started. If you haven’t already, you need to think about: ‘What careers or jobs do I find interesting?’
2. Self Awareness
This highlights the importance of self-knowledge and self-assessment in career planning. We will ask you to complete a few questionnaires to understand the kind of assistance you need. Standardized Psychometric Assessments help us get an objective, reliable and valid result to identify your abilities, aptitudes and interests. Based on what you discussed and mentioned in your first session, your counsellor will recommend two or more tests for you. Fix a date to complete the recommended tests either online or in the paper pencil format at the office.
3. Explore the World of Work
Based on your test scores and the occupation clusters shortlisted by your counselor, research at least 3 of your preferred careers or jobs: check labour market information from the Career Exploration Resources provided by Vocatio, interview someone doing the work, or volunteer in the field for some hands-on experience to assist you in gathering information on what does the work actually entail and whether you see this as a first step in your career plan. Open your ‘Linkedin for Youth’ account and share your board details with your counsellor. This will help you as a student to shortlist courses and universities, generate new professional networks, connect with students currently studying courses you are interested in and finding out more about the world of work.
4. Shortlist Your Top Three
Discuss your findings with the friends and family members who know you well. Generate and explore other possibilities from all the information at hand. If you discover new possibilities, repeat the process. To see if these careers or jobs match your assessment, answer the following questions:
- Do these careers complement my personal characteristics?
- Does this work interest me?
- Do these careers address my priorities?
- Are these careers realistic?
5. Decide What You Need to Study
To figure out what education/training you need, ask yourself: “What do I need to learn in order to meet the qualifications for work in this career or occupation?”
- Research what courses and institutions deliver these learning opportunities.
- Note 2 or 3 possibilities for courses of study.
- Identify what are the entrance requirements, cut-off scores, deadline dates, available seats in the institutions you are interested in.
- Note any personal constraints with regard to the location or cost of the education /training.
- Find out if the institution is affiliated and recognized by the regulatory bodies, has a good placement cell, good research reputation, good classroom and campus facilities.
- Apply to the institutions that interest you.
6. Always create a Back Up Plan
Charges for career counselling sessions is Rs 1000 per hour + applicable taxes and does not include test costs.
